Sammy Portnay is a Human Services major with a concentration in Pre-Social Work at the University of Delaware, where she serves as President of Jewish on Campus. Her involvement in Jewish leadership began in high school through Merkaz, a Jewish high school program where she developed her passion for community, social action, and Jewish identity.
In 2023, Sammy participated in the L’Taken Teen Social Justice Seminar through the Religious Action Center of Reform Judaism, where she explored public policy, social justice, and civic involvement and advocated on Capitol Hill with members of Congress. She also participated in the URJ Teen Israel Organizing Immersive, where she learned about Israeli society and culture and developed skills to engage and organize her community around Israel.
At the University of Delaware, Sammy is passionate about strengthening Jewish student life, advocating for Jewish students, and creating a welcoming and connected Jewish community on campus. Through her work with Jewish on Campus, she hopes to empower students to embrace their Jewish identities, engage in meaningful dialogue, and build connections within and beyond the Jewish community.
