Jewish on Campus (JOC) – a national grassroots organization founded by Jewish students to give voice to Jewish students – sent a letter to New York City Mayor-Elect Zohran Mamdani calling on him to present a clear plan for addressing antisemitism across New York City’s more than 120 colleges and universities.

According to the complaint filed today against California State Polytechnic (Cal Poly), Humboldt by the Brandeis Center and Jewish on Campus, Jewish students have been attacked verbally and physically, excluded and forced out of areas on campus, and subjected to vicious antisemitism.

Yesterday, after news broke that the U.S. Department of Education’s Office for Civil Rights is investigating antisemitism at the University of Vermont, President Suresh V. Garimella sent his university community an astonishingly inadequate and offensive response to the Title VI antisemitism complaint that the Louis D. Brandeis Center for Human Rights Under Law and Jewish on Campus had filed.

We, the undersigned Jewish organizations, are alarmed, disappointed and troubled by the response issued yesterday by the President of the University of Vermont to the Title VI complaint filed on behalf of a number of UVM students by the Louis D. Brandeis Center for Human Rights Under Law and Jewish on Campus.
